About the Judaic Studies Program

This interdisciplinary minor explores the various forms of Judaic expression. Faculty research and teaching focus on the Hebrew Bible, Hebrew and Yiddish fiction, European and American literature, ethnic literary traditions, and Judaic thought.  Students may study these and other aspects of Judaism and Jewish life.

The Judaic Studies program benefits from a wide variety of resources. The Holstein Family Endowment supports an annual field trip linked to the senior seminar; the Arlene and R. Raymond Rothman Endowment sponsors visiting lecturers in Judaic Studies.  The Benjamin Endowment underwrites an assistantship for graduate study, and the annual B. G. Rudolph Lectureship in Judaic Studies brings distinguished speakers to campus. Syracuse University undergraduates submit essays to the Kalina Prize competition for the best essays on the Holocaust.
